Wind Tunnel Tests

In order to clarify the behavior of a building under strong wind,a boundary layer wind tunnel with an open-circuit configuration is installed in our Wind Engineering Laboratory.
We evaluate the design wind load for a projected building and estimate the wind environment around a high-rise building from wind tunnel experiments on scale down models.

Major testing and research activities

■Scale model tests for measuring wind streams.
Predicting and measuring wind velocity around high-rise buildings.
■Scale model tests for measuring wind pressures.
Measuring wind pressure on buildings with cladding to determine wind loads.
■Scale model tests to measure and analyze building responses.
Measuring the dynamic response of tall buildings induced by wind and calculating wind loads for structural members.
■On-site measurement.
Measuring wind directions, velocities and wind pressures related to existing buildings.
■Numerical simulation of wind streams.
Numerical analysis on wind stream around a high-rise building by means of computers.
